Summary of the contracting process

The Home Office has initiated a public procurement process under the planning stage for the provision of healthcare services at short-term holding facilities across the UK. This process is part of their future planning to address healthcare needs at facilities tied to ports of entry and other locations, such as airports and seaports. The procurement process focuses on ensuring the availability of health services for detained individuals for short durations, under the framework of the Short Term Holding Facilities Rules 2018. Interested suppliers must register on the Home Office eSourcing Suite and submit an expression of interest by 10th June 2026. The estimated commencement of the contract is expected in late 2027 or early 2028, with service continued potentially until 2034. This falls under the 'Services' category with key classifications including Health services, Medical practice, and related services.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses specialising in healthcare services, general-practitioner services, and other medical services to partner with a major government organisation. SMEs and VCSEs are specifically encouraged to participate, as the project calls for a flexible and responsive healthcare solution that adapts to various environments across the nation. By engaging in this tender, businesses have the potential to influence the final service specification and introduce innovative, cost-effective healthcare solutions which could lead to long-term partnering with the Home Office. The procurement process also offers interaction through a scheduled virtual industry day, allowing businesses to understand requirements better and present their capabilities.
