Summary of the contracting process

Aston University, a sub-central government public authority located in Birmingham, is in the planning stage of procuring a Patent Renewal Management Service. This procurement relates to the legal services industry and involves managing the renewal of patents across the University's global intellectual property portfolio. The pre-market engagement stage invites feedback via a Request for Information (RFI) to understand market capabilities, service delivery models, and pricing structures. Businesses interested need to submit their responses by 1st June 2026. The procurement process aims to ultimately result in a contract covering approximately 75 active patents, with the contract period expected to start on 1st September 2026 and potentially extending until 31st August 2031.

This tender presents business growth opportunities for firms specialising in legal services, particularly those with expertise in intellectual property and patent management. It is well-suited for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with experience in monitoring patent renewals, providing periodic schedules, and executing renewals within various jurisdictions. Companies capable of offering consolidated invoicing, financial reporting, and robust record maintenance systems can benefit from consolidating their client portfolios. As Aston University seeks to streamline their services under a single contract, businesses with comprehensive service offerings and efficient implementation capabilities will have a competitive advantage in responding to this procurement opportunity.
