Summary of the contracting process

Slough Borough Council is initiating the procurement process for a community-based adult social care service titled "Shared Lives" under the health and social work services category. The procurement is currently in the planning stage, with a pipeline notice published to forewarn the market of the upcoming tender process. Located in Slough, the council plans to open this service starting from 1st June 2027 to 31st May 2031. Prospective suppliers should note the key communication update planned for 1st September 2026. This tender falls under the "light-touch" regime and is above the applicable financial threshold for this procurement category.

The "Shared Lives" tender presents a valuable opportunity for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) interested in providing personalised, family-style adult social care. This initiative offers an opportunity for growth in the health and social work services sector and allows businesses to demonstrate their capability in community care solutions. Organisations with experience in personalised care and an interest in expanding within the Slough region would benefit from engaging with this tender. The procurement method aligns with UK Public Contracts Regulations, offering businesses an opportunity to prepare in advance and align their services with the council's strategic goals in adult social care.

Notice Title

Shared Lives

Notice Description

Shared Lives is a form of community-based adult social care in which individuals receive support from a Shared Lives Carer, either by living in the carer's home on a short-term or long term basis, or through day support and respite arrangements. It is not residential or nursing care in the traditional sense, but offers a personalised, family-style alternative. The requirement of publishing a UK 1 Pipeline Notice on Local Authorities is to prepare the market of our intention to go to market. This is an 18 month forward looking plan. Suppliers will be notified of upcoming tenders via the CDP when we issue either a UK 2 Preliminary Market Engagement Notice or a UK 4 Tender Notice during this duration.
