This planned procurement process falls under the goods category, particularly focusing on railway and tramway locomotives and rolling stock, and associated parts. The procurement stage is currently in planning, with a key document published on 27th May 2026. An open procedure is adopted for this process, with a projected framework agreement start date of 1st April 2027, lasting up to 1st April 2031, with potential extensions until 2035. The framework's size, with a gross value of £11,567,241 (net £9,639,368), presents a considerable market entry for suppliers looking to expand their business within the public rail sector. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will find this framework particularly attractive, given the suitability criteria designed to encourage SME participation. Furthermore, the nature of the framework agreement allows for various call-offs and renewals, providing long-term growth opportunities for businesses capable of meeting the needs of the rail industry's rolling stock maintenance and supply demands. The open procedure encourages wide competition, making it an ideal opportunity for innovative suppliers to establish or strengthen their presence in the UK rail sector.
