Summary of the contracting process

The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recently concluded a procurement process for patient transfers, classified under the goods category with a focus on patient-transport vehicles. Located in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, this procurement progressed through a limited method, bypassing the need for prior call for competition as per the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Regulations 2023. The process reached the contract awarded stage on 1st April 2026. The procurement aims to manage the increasing demand for patient transport services, specifically addressing same-day discharges, and it involved key stakeholders such as the Finance, Clinical Board, and Procurement teams.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in patient transport services and medical logistics, particularly those that can operate under tight deadlines and provide flexible, responsive services. The contract was awarded to FSNE MEDICAL LIMITED, a small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) based in Newcastle. Businesses similar in scale and service offering that can ensure quality, innovation, and social value would be well-suited to pursue future contracts of this nature. With procurement mechanisms increasingly valuing integration, collaboration, and service sustainability, specialised providers can leverage these opportunities to expand their market presence and bolster service delivery within the healthcare sector.
