Summary of the contracting process

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) has announced a preliminary market engagement for the replacement of its Enterprise Virtualisation Platform. As one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England and the West Midlands, UHB is seeking proposals for an AI Platform & Orchestration Engine. Suppliers interested in participating must express their interest via the Health Family Single eCommercial System Portal by 16:00 on 1st July 2026. This initiative is in the planning stage, with a scheduled contract period from 1st December 2026 to 30th November 2029. The contract offers potential renewal options, aiming to upgrade the hospital's software package and information systems under the goods category.

This procurement process presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in software and information systems, particularly those capable of delivering advanced virtualisation and AI orchestration solutions. Companies that are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are considered suitable contenders for this contract. Given the scale and prestige of UHB as a contracting authority, successful engagement with the Trust could position a business as a key player in providing technological solutions to NHS organisations, potentially opening further opportunities within the public healthcare sector.
