Summary of the contracting process

The Mayor's Office for Policing & Crime, located in London, has issued a tender titled "Custody Based Youth Work Supporting Young People Aged 18-25" under the public authority sub-central government classification. This procurement falls under the services industry category, specifically targeting social work and related services. The procurement is currently in the tender stage with a closing date for submissions on 14th August 2026, and enquiries being accepted until 31st July 2026. The contract, valued at up to £5,149,027 gross, involves engagement with young adults in police custody to provide trauma-informed support and aims to bolster their resilience and opportunities. The process will be executed through an open competitive flexible procedure, with provisional plans for contract award by 22nd October 2026, and the contract is set to start from 31st October 2026, extending for two years with potential renewal options up to 2030.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in social work services, particularly those specialising in youth engagement and support. Given the emphasis on relationship-based support, firms experienced in delivering trauma-informed care could find this contract particularly aligned with their expertise. Small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, as the tender explicitly outlines suitability for such entities. Entrants to the tender, aiming to be among the top two highest scoring bidders, will engage in a dual assessment process, including quality aspects and competitive pricing, culminating in presentations and interviews. Such an opportunity could provide these businesses with a substantial platform for growth and visibility in the public sector, as well as increasing their impact on societal progress and community support.
