Summary of the contracting process

Somerset Council is in the planning stage of a procurement process for establishing a "Therapeutic OPMH+ Unit" under the Health Care Services category, specifically focusing on residential nursing care services. The project, with an estimated budget of £2,500,000, aims to provide adaptive and flexible care to optimise health and wellbeing for individuals with dementia, located in the Langport area of Central Somerset. The process follows the Provider Selection Regime and the awarded contract will initially last one year, with potential extensions, bringing the maximum possible duration to three years. Interested providers must express their interest by contacting Stephen Barker at Somerset Council by 29th July 2026.

This tender creates significant business growth opportunities for organisations skilled in residential nursing and mental health care services, particularly those experienced with dementia patients. It will appeal to service providers who can offer person-centred and innovative care solutions in a small, self-contained environment, supported by a skilled workforce. Companies that specialise in creating "Dementia Friendly Environments" and have experience working alongside multi-disciplinary teams would be well-suited to compete for this contract. Such businesses would benefit significantly from the contract’s potential three-year span, enabling them to solidify their presence in the healthcare industry within the region.
