Summary of the contracting process

The UK Atomic Energy Authority, located at Culham Science Centre, Oxfordshire, has initiated a planning process for a project titled "Tritium Storage Solutions Specification Definition and Market Research" within the industrial machinery sector. This procurement concerns the main category of goods and is geographically focused in the United Kingdom region UKJ. The process is currently in the planning stage, with a future notice anticipated on 15th September 2026. Interested bidders are encouraged to engage by the scheduled market engagement milestone due on 15th August 2026. This preliminary notice seeks suppliers capable of providing solutions for storing tritium, highlighting the need for robust specifications and high-quality deliverables.

This tender offers a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in the supply of radioactive materials, gamma counters, storage containers, pressure vessels, and similar industrial machinery. Companies with expertise in these areas have the potential to expand their business by aligning with the quality and specification needs stated by UKAEA. The need for innovative tritium storage solutions presents a unique chance for suppliers to demonstrate their capabilities and possibly influence the development of future tenders. Enterprises adept at addressing complex technical requirements and delivering high-standard products will find this procurement opportunity particularly advantageous.

Notice Title

Tritium Storage Solutions Specification Definition and Market Research

Notice Description

UKAEA requires a solution for storing relatively small amounts of tritium. Usually, we use getter materials such as depleted Uranium and products have been purchased previously from known suppliers. What has been delivered has not been of high enough quality and we would like to understand what our options are and to make sure our specification is tight. Due to the nature of this project, there is currently no defined value for the project, and the value given is purely theoretical. The technical team would like to use this Pre Market Engagement Notice to understand what is available within the market to develop a robust specification for the future intended tender. A full scope of requirements can be seen in the attached documentation to this PMEN.
