Summary of the contracting process

The British Tourist Authority, trading as VisitBritain and VisitEngland, procured domestic tourism market research services for VisitEngland, VisitScotland and Visit Wales. The requirement is a Domestic Sentiment Tracker, designed to monitor consumer sentiment and intentions across UK adults. Research covers overnight trips in the UK and abroad, day trips, business trips, sustainability, the cost of living crisis and other topics agreed each month. The work is intended to produce consistent, robust and nationally representative data, with data and reports supplied to the tourism insights teams. Findings will support internal and external analysis and be reported to the wider tourism industry. Delivery covers the United Kingdom.

The procurement is complete and the contract was awarded to IPSOS (MARKET RESEARCH) LTD. The contract was signed on 17 June 2026 for £256,580. The process used a limited procedure as a call-off following further competition under the CCS/GCA RM6126 Research & Insights Dynamic Purchasing System, without a prior call for competition. Three bids were received, all electronically. Evaluation weighted technical quality at 60%, social value at 10% and price at 30%. The requirement was covered by the Government Procurement Agreement. The procurement record identifies research services as the category and shows one requirement, with the award recorded as active.

This award indicates demand from VisitBritain and its partner tourism organisations for recurring, structured evidence about domestic travel behaviour and consumer sentiment. Suppliers well placed for comparable work would need strong market research capability, experience designing and delivering nationally representative research among UK adults, and the capacity to track results consistently over time. Credible delivery would require reliable monthly data collection, robust analysis and clear reporting for specialist insights teams and a wider industry audience. Relevant expertise includes tourism research, travel intentions, day and business travel, sustainability, cost-of-living impacts and the ability to accommodate agreed ad hoc topics. The evaluation also shows that technical quality and social value carried greater weight than price.
