Summary of the contracting process

The University of Strathclyde is procuring pest control and associated services for its Glasgow university operations. The work covers inspections and treatments, planned preventative maintenance and reactive call-outs, including pest control in university kitchens, cafés and other food-preparation areas. The supplier will also need to respond to campus calls and emergencies at student residences. This is a services contract, with the possibility of related goods being purchased. Delivery is at the University of Strathclyde; the notice identifies the university but does not give a more specific service address. The contract is intended to support the university’s ongoing pest-control requirements, including work in residential and catering environments.

The buyer invited offers through an open procedure, and the procurement reached the tender stage. Bids were due by 2 December 2026 at 12:00 UTC; the award period was scheduled to start at that time. The contract is for 24 months, with options to extend for up to two further 12-month periods at the university’s discretion. Its stated estimated value is £196,726. The contract is to be awarded to a sole supplier. Evaluation gives 70% weight to cost and 30% to quality. Bidders could not submit variants. Offers had to be in English and remain valid for 90 days. The successful supplier must commit to community benefits, with the commitment assessed through the technical response.

This opportunity suits pest-control providers able to deliver scheduled preventative work alongside responsive treatment visits, including in student accommodation and food-preparation settings. The service calls for suitably qualified and equipped staff who can work to relevant British Standards, with a standard 24-hour response for main-campus requirements and a four-hour emergency response for student residences. Bidders need three relevant service examples from the previous three years, including experience in both residential and catering or kitchen environments. Required credentials include British Pest Control Association, CHAS Standard and Safecontractor, or equivalent qualifications. Providers must also meet the stated quality-assurance and environmental-management standards. The turnover and insurance thresholds, together with joint and several liability for tendering groups, make this more suitable for established suppliers with adequate financial and operational capacity. The supplier must also propose community benefits. The requirement is planned as a sole-supplier contract.
