Summary of the contracting process

Canterbury City Council is seeking a supplier for fire remedial and associated works. The requirement falls within repair and maintenance services and is intended to address fire-related remedial needs and related works for the Council. The procurement is for services rather than goods or construction works as a standalone category. The Council is the buying organisation and the opportunity is suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises. The detailed scope, technical requirements and delivery arrangements are set out in the tender documentation, which suppliers must review and complete when submitting their offer. Businesses specialising in fire remedial works, fire safety-related repairs and associated building maintenance should consider this opportunity.

The process has reached tender: Canterbury City Council invited offers through an open procedure. Tender documents and questions were to be handled electronically through the Kent Business Portal, with tenders and enquiries due by 12:00 on 9 October 2026. The planned award decision date was 19 October 2026. The contract was scheduled to run from 1 December 2026 to 30 November 2027, with possible extensions of three further one-year periods, subject to satisfactory performance and written agreement, giving a maximum end date of 30 November 2030. The estimated value is £1,200,000 excluding VAT and £1,440,000 including VAT. Price carries 70% of the evaluation and quality 30%. Economic and technical selection criteria apply.

This opportunity suits suppliers that can deliver fire remedial works alongside associated repair and maintenance services for a public-sector client. The Council has identified the procurement as suitable for SMEs, so it may be relevant to established specialist contractors as well as larger building maintenance businesses with the capacity to manage a substantial service requirement. Competitors will need to demonstrate both economic suitability and technical capability, with the supporting requirements set out in the ITT Response Document. A strong offer will therefore need to address the technical delivery requirements clearly and provide competitive pricing, while also evidencing the organisation’s financial standing and ability to perform the services. Quality forms a significant part of the evaluation, alongside price.
