Summary of the contracting process

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust sought outsourced dermatology services for patients on its waiting list. The requirement covers an end-to-end pathway for around 800 patients, from their first appointment through assessment and treatment, any clinically required follow-up, and discharge back to their GP. The service is intended to reduce waiting lists and improve access to care. It must be delivered locally to the Trust, serving patients in the Barking, Havering and Redbridge area of London. The clinical work includes care for children as well as adults, and provision of several treatment and diagnostic options, including patch testing, phototherapy, biopsies and excisions.

The Trust invited supplier offers at the tender stage, but the market test was subsequently terminated following an executive decision. The procurement is withdrawn, so no award will be made through this process. The stated contract period was 2 November 2026 to 31 March 2027, with an approximate value of £520,000. The requirement was presented as one lot. The market test sought expressions of interest by 23:59 on 2 October 2026; the source describes no separate tender enquiry deadline or evaluation criteria. The process used a light-touch procedure for health services. Suppliers were expected to provide the complete dermatology pathway locally and treat approximately 800 patients.

This requirement suited providers able to mobilise local outpatient dermatology capacity and deliver a complete pathway at meaningful scale within a short service period. Clinical capability needed to extend beyond consultation and diagnosis to treatment, appropriate follow-up and discharge coordination with GPs. Providers also needed the capacity and expertise to treat paediatric patients, manage patients requiring systemic or biologic medication—including initiation and appropriate monitoring—and offer patch testing and phototherapy. The required procedural capability included biopsies and excisions. These demands make the opportunity most relevant to established dermatology services with multidisciplinary clinical teams, suitable facilities and the ability to handle a concentrated waiting-list cohort. However, the market test has been terminated, and this procurement will not proceed.
