Summary of the contracting process

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust procured insourced MRI medical imaging services. The work is diagnostic imaging delivered at the Trust’s sites in Northern Lincolnshire and Goole. This is a healthcare service, rather than a purchase of imaging equipment: the supplier provides MRI services within the Trust and community care system, supporting patient choice and access to imaging. The selected provider is Diagnostic Healthcare Limited, which was already delivering the service under the existing contract. The requirement is therefore for an experienced imaging services provider able to integrate with NHS and community care arrangements across the Trust’s sites.

The Trust selected Diagnostic Healthcare Limited through the Provider Selection Regime’s Direct Award Process C, without a prior competition. The decision was made on 21 September 2026. The notice describes an intention to award and says the contract had not yet formally been awarded at publication; the compiled contract data records an active contract signed on 21 September 2026. The initial term runs from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, with options for two further three-month extensions. The estimated value is £280,000 for the initial term and up to £560,000 if extensions are exercised; the recorded contract value is £560,000. Assessment weighted quality-related key criteria at 75% and value at 25%.

This award shows that the Trust buys an integrated, insourced MRI service from a provider able to deliver diagnostic imaging at its sites and work within both Trust and community care pathways. A credible competitor when this requirement returns would need experienced imaging staff, the operational capacity to provide MRI services across the Trust’s locations, and the ability to meet monitored service standards and performance measures. The assessment favoured quality-related criteria over price, so evidence of reliable, high-quality delivery and value would matter. The selected provider was considered to meet the existing contract’s requirements and to be capable of meeting the new contract’s standards; it also supported patient choice, accessibility and local employment. The arrangement was made by direct award under the Provider Selection Regime, rather than through an open competition.
