Summary of the contracting process

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board bought insourced diagnostic urology services to support planned elective care and reduce waits for patients on treatment pathways, including urgent suspected cancer cases. The service covers diagnostic procedures such as flexible cystoscopy and local anaesthetic transperineal biopsy, together with clinical administration across patients’ diagnostic pathways. Medical and nursing staff, plus multidisciplinary support staff, are required to see and treat patients. The procurement is classified as urologist services (CPV 85121292). Delivery is across the Health Board’s area in North Wales, including Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham.

The contract was awarded to ID Medical Group Limited and signed on 2 October 2026. Its value is £105,690. The published data gives no contract duration or award date. The Health Board used a direct award call-off from the SBS Framework for Insourcing of Clinical Services, without a prior competition. The notice describes the award as subject to the Provider Selection Regime for Wales and states that representations were due by 11:59pm on 13 October 2026. The service was assessed against activity, financial standing and technical ability, then scored on quality (45%), value (30%), collaboration and service sustainability (15%), improving access and reducing health inequalities (5%), and social responsibility (5%).

This award demonstrates demand from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board for external clinical teams to deliver diagnostic urology within its planned-care programme. A credible provider needs the ability to supply appropriately experienced medical and nursing staff, multidisciplinary support and the clinical administration needed to complete patient pathways. Relevant delivery capability includes flexible cystoscopy and local anaesthetic transperineal biopsy, alongside the capacity to serve patients across the Health Board’s North Wales area. The stated assessment also shows that providers need to demonstrate sound activity, financial standing and technical ability, with a strong quality offer and value, while explaining how they will collaborate, sustain the service, improve access and reduce health inequalities, and meet social responsibility expectations. The route used was a framework call-off.
