LD Path has previously undertaken to report histology samples for the Health Board for auditing purposes and has exhibited the required Royal College of Pathology standards as well as built the required operational interface required for a safe and quality service. The direct award of the contract is to ensure that the backlog is tackled efficiently and with maximum standards of quality and safety. It is planned that within the contract duration, if the requirement to continue the outsourcing is maintained due to the impacts of the pandemic, then a tendering exercise will be undertaken. At present, the risk to patients and the service and staffing by conducting an OJEU level tender is significant due to the time factors and uncertainty of an unknown partner.",
