Summary of the contracting process

Prifysgol Bangor / Bangor University has concluded the procurement process for an advanced Real-Time FPGA-based DSP Platform. This procurement falls under the goods category of electrical equipment and apparatus and is aimed at enhancing the research capabilities of the University's DSP Centre. The procurement process, which began with the planning stage in June 2024, transitioned through the tender phase in August 2024, and culminated with an award in July 2025. The deadline for tender submissions was at the end of September 2024, with Sarsen Technology Limited securing the contract as the supplier. The contract was signed on 6th June 2025.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for technology firms specialising in cutting-edge communication technologies, particularly those offering expertise in FPGA-based systems. The demand for high-performance, real-time development platforms incorporating FPGA designs with high-speed ADC and DAC capabilities indicates a valuable market niche. Businesses specialising in system integration, user-training, and installation support, especially those capable of integrating social and environmental considerations into their proposals, would be well-suited to compete for such opportunities. This project also aligns with the North West Growth Deal’s objectives, further providing a platform for contributing to regional economic growth.

Notice Title

Real-Time FPGA -based DSP Platform

Notice Description

The DSP Centre at Bangor University undertakes research in advanced communication technologies in its state-of-the-art research facility which is partly funded by the North West Growth Deal (NWGD) through Ambition North Wales. To further expand our research capabilities, we plan to acquire a Real-Time DSP Platform, and will also require installation/set-up support and training.A real-time development platform is required incorporating a high-performance Intel/Altera field programmable gate array (FPGA) (for compatibility with our existing FPGA designs) and high-speed analogue-to-digital (ADC)and digital-to-analogue (DAC) converters. The ADC/DAC must operate at a minimum of 50GS/s with a minimum of 8-bits resolution. Ease of system operation and associated DSP design tools will be a major consideration. A multi-board solution is acceptable.
