Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Canals agency has initiated the procurement of the "Scottish Canals Septic Tank and Pump-out contract," aimed at providing services across three geographical areas: the Lowlands, the Highlands, and the Crinan Canal. This open procedure is currently active and focuses on the emptying and de-sludging of septic tanks for operational and domestic properties, as well as chemical toilet disposal and boating waste pump-out facilities. The tender submission deadline was on 7 September 2016, with the award period commencing the same day, under a total contract value of £250,000. The relevant contact for this procurement is Steven Menzies, reachable at steven.menzies@scottishcanals.co.uk.

This tender represents significant growth opportunities for businesses in the waste management and sanitation services sector. Companies specialising in wastewater treatment, sanitation, and environmental services, particularly those with capabilities for septic tank emptying and chemical toilet disposal, would be well-positioned to compete. Bidders should be prepared to demonstrate their technical facilities and compliance with environmental management standards, as community benefit proposals will be an essential part of the procurement process. This contract may also allow for extensions, ensuring a longer-term partnership with Scottish Canals.
