Imaging Flow Cytometry System

UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN

This public procurement record has 1 release in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

The University of Aberdeen is seeking suppliers for an advanced Imaging Flow Cytometry System as part of their research initiatives. This procurement falls under the category of goods within the education sector and is located in Aberdeen, UK. The procurement method is a limited tender, awarded without prior publication, due to specific technical requirements that can only be met by one provider. The contract was signed on 21st February 2017, and the project aims to enhance the understanding of complex biological systems through high content image analysis.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for suppliers specialising in advanced imaging technologies and laboratory equipment, particularly those with the capacity to deliver highly specialised flow cytometry systems. Companies that provide innovative solutions in high-throughput biological analysis and have experience in academic or research environments would be particularly well-suited to compete. Engaging with the University of Aberdeen can open doors for further collaboration in scientific research projects and development initiatives.

Notice Title

Imaging Flow Cytometry System

Notice Description

The University of Aberdeen requires a single platform Imaging Flow Cytometry System to enable research of complex biological systems using the quantitative power and speed of Flow Cytometry with high content image analysis.

Lot Information

Lot 1

Imaging Flow Cytometry System for research purposes with a single platform for understanding complex biological systems using the quantitative power and speed of Flow Cytometry with high content image analysis. - Capable of acquiring microscopic images from cells in suspension at flow rates of 5,000 cells per second - Generate a minimum of twelve images of each cell to perform Multi-parameter cytometry and be upgradable to permit additional images. - Images to include at least one brightfield image, and one darkfield image and up to ten separate fluorescent images in spectrally distinct fluorescent channels. - Capability to load and inject 20-200 uL of sample from a single micro-tube and provide a 96-well plate auto-sampling for analysing small volume in automated high-throughput manner. - Brightfield illuminator, a darkfield illuminator, and 5 variable power lasers having excitation lines/maximal power outputs of 488 nm/ 400 mW, 642 nm/150mW; 375 nm/20 mW, 405 nm/100 mW, 561 nm/200 mW, and 592 nm/300 mW. - Selectable magnification objectives (minimum 20x, 40x and 60x) and a combination of specialised optics (Extended Depth of Field (EDF)) and unique image processing algorithms that project all structures, spots, vesicles and probes within the cell into one crisply-focused image. - Automatic feedback mechanism to monitor and adjust for changes in the position of cells in flow, keeping the vast majority of cells in focus. - Complete self-test and self-calibration capability. - PC with the capability of analysing tens of thousands of cells in a high-speed manner including sufficient size of the memory and storage. - Software with capability to analyse tens of thousands of cells as individual cells or aggregate populations and be able to generate information on more than 80 features per image of a cell, including methods for user-generated feature analysis.

Procurement Information

The equipment involved is for the purpose of research, experiment, study and development and the technical requirements and outputs are such that there is only one current provider that can meet the requirements. Prior to this Notice, engagement has been undertaken with competitors in the market and alternative Flow Cytometry equipment currently on the market do not meet the required functionality and outputs for this research.
