CAN DO Innovation Challenge Fund - Low Carbon Energy System Challenges
Notice Description
If you feel that you have a current product or service which may partly meet one of the challenges, or if you are interested in the opportunity to be involved in developing an innovative solution, please respond to the relevant lot by noting your interest. Following this initial market test, the Challenge Fund will evaluate each project, where a decision will be made on whether to pursue the potential project further with the public body. Projects. Individual Public Bodies will further advertise these projects if taken forward in due course, commencing October 2017. All the information we can share at this point is contained in the lot description. Suppliers noting interest will be informed of future progress following the closing date. The following lots describe the innovation challenges that have been submitted by a range of public sector organisation to the 1st call for funding.
Lot Information
Integrated Energy Management System for Mid-Scale Buildings in Urban Areas
Perth & Kinross Council Integrated Energy Management System for Mid-Scale Buildings in Urban Areas The Challenge will be to prepare, specify, cost, provide financial projections with estimated net financial benefits in Phase 1 and, in Phase 2 deliver a sustainable Combined Heat and Power solution incorporating Battery Storage to meet a 30-50 kWe load, based on a piped gas fuel source. Such a solution will not involve more than nominal Nitrogen Dioxide or particulates emissions and will deliver a high level (more than 50%) of electrical as well as overall energy efficiency. For the purpose of the Challenge, the Council will provide details of a specific Council-owned building to prospective Challenge Solvers, for which a solution will be sought. This building will be one of a larger number of such buildings within the Council estate, with scope for further deployment following a successful Phase 2 demonstration deployment.
Big Data - Local Active Energy MasterplanHighland Council Big Data - Local Active Energy Masterplan The Highland Council is seeking to develop a "Big Data" Local Energy Mapping resource that will provide an accessible and detailed interactive map that can be used to develop energy strategy at an area level. This map needs to be readily available and include a range of aspects that provide a holistic and detailed resource to allow individuals, households, communities, businesses and organisations to understand and develop solutions tailored to the local area energy need.
Council Energy Management Learning project: Effective Battery Storage Management via On-Site Renewable GenerationThe Highland Council Council Energy Management Learning project: Effective Battery Storage Management via On-Site Renewable Generation The Highland Council is seeking to find a solution to an energy management issue on a landfill site at Seater. The project should seek to provide quantifiable evidence that will help build practical knowledge of how energy storage could be utilized to save the Council money and reduce reliance on the national grid. The intention is to test different energy storage, potentially including portable batteries, to learn how these could be utilized across the Highlands for energy management purposes and reducing the energy bills. The data gathered through the project will be shared with social housing associations, communities and other local authorities.
Creating a low carbon heating system for a rural island schoolOrkney Islands Council Creating a low carbon heating system for a rural island school. Orkney Islands Council seeks to install a low carbon heating solution to heat a remote rural island school building. This could use the locally produced hydrogen produced in the locality from curtailed wind and tidal energy, if it is viable, or some other local non-fossil fuel solution. The heating system should be able to stand alone without the need to use fossil fuels.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Solutions (Renewable, Storage, Vehicle to grid capability)City of Edinburgh Council Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Solutions (Renewables, Storage, Vehicle to grid capability) City of Edinburgh Council open innovation challenge Could you help City of Edinburgh Council's sustainability team provide electric vehicle (EV) energy storage through a renewable source? Currently the Council have several off-street EV chargers. The technology and capabilities of EV charging technology is improving at a fast rate year on year but still doesn't offer the true smart city / smart grid solutions that EV charging infrastructure has the potential to achieve.
