The University of Aberdeen wished to procure a Panopto software licence and support inclusive of maintenance and renewal.

In May 2016 The University invited software vendors to tender for a 12 month pilot for a lecture capture system. This pilot was part of a larger project with the aim of creating two learning spaces specifically tailored to flexible study through the use of technology and furniture, with the recording of multiple input devices and compatibility with technologies such as camera tracking. The University currently uses TechSmith Relay to provide Lecture Capture services to staff, students, and guests across the institution. The TechSmith lecture capture videos are managed by a cloud hosted streaming and storage service provided by Kaltura. Kaltura is also used to manage video content for the University's website. The bidding exercise conducted in 2016 to select Panopto for the pilot, and the subsequent evaluation of the pilot solution, has resulted in the University's desire to specify Panopto as the required solution going forward.
