Notice Title
Award of Ultra-low Temperature Freezers
Notice Description
Cryogenic freezers for use in biomedical research, to be purchased across a period of 5 years, for installation in various locations and institutes across the University of Edinburgh. The immediate requirement is for replacement systems for the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences (CCBS) in the Chancellor's Building at 49 Little France Crescent, Edinburgh, EH16 4SB; and the National CJD Research & Surveillance Unit (NCJDRSN) at the Western General Hospital, Crewe Road, Edinburgh, EH4 2XU. Other planned and work in progress developments including the Institute for Regeneration and Repair(IRR) and the 'New Biology' project (Darwin) will also require congruent equipment. The CCBS and NCJDRSN plans foresee an initial tranche of 2 required immediately; thereafter a further 4 by Q2 of 2018; a further 4 by end of calendar year 2018, and an estimated 10 additional units within the 5-year timeframe. Operating temperatures down to -150degC are required. For sustainability and simplified infrastructure reasons, the University prefers a solution that does not require liquid nitrogen cooling. The number of units required for IRR, Darwin and other projects are yet to be finalised but are expected to be of a similar order of magnitude, although not necessarily the same operating temperature range.
