The anticipated outcome of the contract is: - the knowledge with which to establish language observation as a regular research method for the public vitality of Gaelic, - guidance on those metrics of Gaelic spoken vitality which it is feasible to collect by observation, - guidance on metrics with which to compare open spaces, - guidance on metrics with which to compare closed spaces and the linguistic approaches employed in them, and - guidance on metrics for comparison over time of the impact of linguistic programmes and/or problems. Geography of the project: All of Scotland, though it is understood that it is unlikely that any appropriate open space will be available outwith the Hebrides.
