Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the Shetland Islands Council (Utilities) seeking bids for the "Supply of Temporary Chill Facility" in Scalloway, Shetland. This initiative is part of the utility's plan to construct a new fish market and requires a temporary chilled facility during the demolition and construction phases, with commissioning needed by 1 July 2018. The procurement method used is an open procedure, allowing all qualified suppliers to participate. The tender process is currently complete, with the contract signed on 27 April 2018.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in temporary structures, refrigeration, and related logistics services. Suppliers of chilled storage solutions and construction firms with experience in temporary facility setup would be particularly well-positioned to compete for this contract. The duration of 18 months or more further allows for sustainable business growth through potential extensions or follow-up projects in the region.

Notice Title

Supply of Temporary Chill Facility

Notice Description

The Utility is planning to build a new purpose built fish market in Scalloway, Shetland on the site of the existing fish market. A temporary chill facility is therefore required to cover the period of demolition, construction and commissioning of the new market. It is envisaged that will be for a period of 18 months. The Utility has secured a temporary lease on a large industrial warehouse, close to the site of the existing market. This warehouse is un-insulated and requires work to make it suitable for use as a temporary fish market. It is proposed that a contract be let, to install a temporary chilled insulated shell within this warehouse, with an internal floor area of approx. 750m2. All equipment needed to form the temporary chilled facility would be hired for the duration required, with the building returned to its current use on completion of the new fish market. The temporary chill facility is required to be commissioned and ready for use from 1 July 2018.
