The Academic Advisor will work with Scottish Government, Education Scotland and Challenge Authorities to provide specialist advice to support further development and implementation of the SAC programme. Specifically, the Academic Advisor will: - Promote engagement and awareness of the most relevant and up to date national and international research relating to educational inequity. - Act as a reference point for staff supporting the Scottish Attainment Challenge, including sitting on the Scottish Attainment Challenge Programme Board and contributing to events and workshops as required. - Provide specialist advice on the development and implementation of the Scottish Attainment Challenge. This will include advising on appropriate monitoring and evaluation strategies within local authorities, and drawing lessons learned from across local authorities for the overall evaluation of the Attainment Scotland Fund. - Provide advice and challenge on effective collaboration and system leadership across schools, local authorities, Regional Improvement Collaboratives and other institutions. - Link in with colleagues in the Scottish College for Educational Leadership (SCEL), now part of Education Scotland, to offer advice on themes for the SCEL fellows and other SCEL programme participants in terms of action research which are aligned with the Scottish Attainment Challenge. - Form part of a working group to develop plans for making effective use of university-based researchers to ensure they have a cohesive and positive impact on SAC. - Provide advice on the evaluation strategy for the Scottish Attainment Challenge. The Academic Advisor will also support the work of the Attainment Advisors. Specifically, this will involve: - Contributing to the professional development of Attainment Advisors, including supporting the design and delivery of their professional learning programme; - Engaging in regular dialogue with the Attainment Advisor team, in relation to their role in the Scottish system, as well as sharing related expertise and practice from other education systems; and - Acting as a point of reference for Attainment Advisors to support the identification of research relevant to the priorities of the local authority. In order to fulfil the responsibilities set out above, it is expected that the Academic Advisor will have a particular set of skills, experience and knowledge. The Academic Advisor will be consulted on a range of issues pertinent to achieving the aims of the Scottish Attainment Challenge. They should, therefore, have extensive knowledge of national and international research covering a broad range of education topics, including educational inequity, school improvement and educational system performance and change internationally, as well as a good understanding and experience of the Scottish education system. The Advisor should be experienced in contributing to improvement programmes, system change, collaboration across institutions, and evaluation and monitoring
