To Fabricate, Supply and Install Sparling New Cycle/Footbridge in Newton Stewart
Notice Description
Dumfries and Galloway Council wish to procure a new cycle/footbridge crossing the River Cree in Newton Stewart. The main works will comprise of off-site fabrication, delivery, and installation of a 37.8m span painted steel vierendeel truss cycle/footbridge together with the construction of the substructure and approach ramps. Steel sheet pile cofferdams will be required for the construction of the main reinforced concrete abutments, sheet piles will also provide scour protection for the design life of the bridge. A new section of sealed path is to be constructed on the east side to join the base of the new east ramp to the existing sealed path to the north. Lighting and scour protection installation will also be required as part of the works.

Lot 1
Dumfries & Galloway Council wish to procure construction of a new cycle/footbridge crossing the River Cree in Newton Stewart. The main works will comprise the fabrication, delivery and installation of a 37.8m span painted steel vierendeel truss cycle/footbridge along with construction of the substructure and approaches. Steel sheet pile cofferdams will be required for the construction of the main reinforced concrete abutments. A reinforced concrete approach ramp on the east side is required to take up the level difference. A section of sealed path is to be constructed on the east side to join the base of the new east ramp to the existing sealed path to the north. Lighting and scour protection installation will also be required as part of the works. Site clearance will include removal of approximately two trees and the cutting back of others along with measure to deal with Japanese Knotweed on the west bank. The new bridge falls within an environmentally sensitive area so SEPA, Scottish Natural Heritage and Galloway Fisheries Trust requirements will need to be taken into account. This PIN is being issued to allow any interested contractor to make initial enquiries and organise supply chains. A call for competition is expected to be released in January 2019 with construction expected to begin in April 2019 with completion of the project being the end of August 2019. A general arrangement drawing of the scheme is attached to this Notice.
