Notice Title

Investigate prevalence of CO2 from disused mineral mines and implications for residential buildings

Notice Description

In 2017 a report on the investigation into carbon dioxide leaks into homes in Gorebridge was published. The report recommended that mine gas mitigation measures should be made mandatory in all new residential and similar developments in areas designated by the Coal Authority as former mining areas. This research will explore how 'typical' the Incident Management Team (IMT) findings from this incident could become if no action is taken in terms of Scottish building regulations. It will also help inform if any action is necessary and help ensure that any action considered would be proportionate, consistent, accountable, transparent and targeted.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The objective of this research is to consider in more detail the IMT report, identify if similar incidents within Scotland have occurred and investigate if, with more knowledge, a different solution could have been reached. A peer review of the IMT report will be needed identifying any gaps in the findings.
