Notice Description
The Council is planning to appoint an experienced contractor to construct the waterfront path and cycle way with all the associated works. The path is approximately 1,140m long with a variety of view-points and seating areas along the route. It is intended to be a high quality, accessible and visually attractive link between Dumbarton town centre and its Rock and Castle and to become a destination where residents and visitors can enjoy recreational activities such as walking and cycling and enjoy the outlook over the river and views to the Rock and Castle.

The great potential of the Dumbarton waterfront has been recognised by the Council and the community and it became a focus for the town's regeneration. To make the waterfront more accessible, a longstanding ambition of the Council has been to create a waterfront path along the River Leven which links Dumbarton town centre with its Rock and Castle. The Council is planning to appoint an experienced contractor to construct the waterfront path and cycle way with all the associated works. The path is approximately 1,140m long with a variety of view-points and seating areas along the route. It is intended to be a high quality, accessible and visually attractive link between Dumbarton town centre and its Rock and Castle and to become a destination where residents and visitors can enjoy recreational activities such as walking and cycling and enjoy the outlook over the river and views to the Rock and Castle. It passes through land under the ownership of Culross, Lidl, Turnberry Homes and Dumbarton Football Club [DFC]. The Council will deliver the length of the path within Lidl, Turnberry Homes and DFC under an agreement with the landowners. The waterfront path received planning permission on 20 November 2017. Planning application number is DC16/278 and full details of the planning permission can be viewed at https://www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk/uniform/dcsearch_simple.asp The contract will comprise the following works: - Earthwork required to construct the path - Path construction including the wave wall and railings - Public realm works including lighting, street furniture and associated green spaces - Infrastructure required for CCTV - Floodlighting for the Rock All foreshore substructure works including remediation or possibly reconstruction of embankments where required to support any increase in height or the proposed walkway, will be delivered by the landowners prior to the path construction works. The path falls within an environmentally sensitive area so SEPA and Scottish Natural Heritage requirements will need to be taken into account. This PIN is being issued to allow any interested contractor to make initial enquiries and organise supply chains. A call for competition is expected to be released in September 2018 with construction expected to begin in February 2019 with completion of the project being the end of December 2019.
