Hawick Flood Protection Scheme - Contractors & Suppliers Information Day
Notice Description
The Hawick Flood Protection Scheme (Scheme) is hosting a Contractors and Suppliers Information Day on the 29 August 2018, at the Hawick Town Hall between 11am and 8pm. The purpose of this event is for potential Contractors and Suppliers to gather further information on the scope of services this major civil engineering project will deliver. This will be an informal event which will be set-up like a public exhibition with information boards, information packs, audio-visual displays and members of the Project Team available to discuss the high level principles of the project with large, medium and small contractors and suppliers. After the event a dedicated page on the project website will be available for Contractors and Suppliers to register their details under specific disciplines, and this information will be made available to the Main Works Contractors tendering for the project, should they wish to access it. There is no requirement to register for the event in advance.
Lot Information
Lot 1
As published in the PIN for the Main Works Contract on 29 June 2018, the project is a formal flood protection scheme and a major civil engineering project advanced by the Council under the Flood Protection Scheme Programme for Scotland. The project has been developed by the Council and their Design Consultant, Jacobs (formerly CH2M Hill and Halcrow) since 2010. The Scheme will deliver flood protection against the 1 in 75 year flood event to 930 residential and commercial properties at risk along the river Teviot and Slitrig water through Hawick. The Scheme will also deliver multiple benefits to the town of Hawick, maximising the cultural, heritage, educational, environmental, energy and health opportunities that a major civil engineering project can deliver in partnership with the community and external organisations. The Scheme is now operational under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009 and the preparation for Tendering (and in particular the Detailed Design) is now nearing completion. The total length of flood defence wall will be approx. 5.93km, with 5.6km of walls (including glazing and stone cladding in parts) and 0.33km of embankments. SEPA approval has been obtained that approx. 1.6km of these walls will be constructed from the wet side (in river). - Where the height of the new flood defences is greater than 1.4m above existing ground level it is intended, where possible, to raise the existing ground level behind the new defences to restrict the height to no greater than 1.4m; - There will be a minimum of ten new flood gates / demountable barriers; - The walls have been designed for a lifespan of 100 years minimum; - The foundations of the flood defences have been designed such that the defence heights can be increased to protect against the 1 in 100 year flood event; - The average height of the defences will be approximately 1.6m above existing ground level, with a maximum of 2.55m at the High School; - The defences will also provide sheet piled seepage protection, improved surface water drainage and up to eight surface water pumping stations; - The defences will be of sheet pile construction with reinforced formed concrete walls above ground; - Approx. 15% of the length of the walls will include glazing panels; - Approx. 9130 square metres of concrete flood wall will be clad with sandstone or whin stone; and - Approx. 185m of new culverts, and up to 2.5km of erosion protection for the riverbank and toe of some flood walls. The following will also be included in the project: - Removal and replacement of 3 No. footbridges, a linked minimum 2.5m wide sustainable combined footway/cycleway over the length of the Scheme, and a number of key sustainable travel-type nodal point locations developed under a SUSTRANS partnership; and - Construction of 1 No. new Pumping Station, designed to a Scottish Water specification, within their Hawick WwTW site and which will provide enhanced management capability for the facilities' final effluent and storm overflow outlets.. Location - Hawick Town Hall, TD9 9EF Date - Wednesday 29th August 2018 Time - 1100-2000hrs
