The research aim of this research project is to review noise modelling approaches to inform Scottish Government and external parties on marine mammal noise impact assessments.

Lot 1
Review noise modelling approaches currently used in underwater impact assessments for marine mammals. The review will focus on pile driving noise, although modelling of other types of noise may also be included if considered appropriate. Cover modelling approaches for both single strike and cumulative metrics, including the potential for auditory injury and behavioural impacts. Include a critical appraisal of the available and currently used options/approaches for the assessment of pile driving noise. The appraisal should highlight the implications of different model choices and the model sensitivities to input parameters. Where this information is not readily available by means of a literature review or direct comparison of examples of modelling, noise modelling may be undertaken to illustrate specific sensitivities.
