The research aim of this research project is to review existing data and consider the Scoping of requirements for potentially taking forward a full audit in future. Specifically, the study will aim to: Identify and assemble all the relevant data/information on the distribution and extent of blue carbon habitats in Orkney, assessing the quality, quantity, scale and nature of the available data on distribution and extent of habitats and carbon stores within them. This scoping phase would also review the main threats to blue carbon storage and sequestration in Orkney and the effectiveness of protection measures already in place to also protect blue carbon processes and sinks.
