Summary of the contracting process

The University of Aberdeen is undertaking a procurement process for the supply of a Continuous Wave Fibre Laser, specifically designed to meet the needs of both laboratory and field applications. This procurement is at the award stage, having been completed on 14 November 2018, with a total contract value of £500,000. The tender was issued under a limited procurement method, justified by the absence of competition due to IPG's exclusive rights to the required technology. The location of delivery will be the University of Aberdeen, situated in Aberdeen, UK.

This contract presents substantial opportunities for businesses within the manufacturing and engineering sectors, particularly those specialising in high-tech equipment or patent-protected technology. Companies that focus on laser technology or have capabilities in producing compact and robust units suitable for both laboratory and field use may find a competitive advantage. The streamlined procurement method employed by the University indicates a preference for high-quality, technologically advanced products, which could encourage small to medium enterprises (SMEs) with such expertise to engage in future bidding processes.
