Notice Description

The project consists of the internal refurbishment and alteration of the former Day Nursery in the grounds of St Johns Hospital.The former Day Nursery is a stand-alone building located in the Residences area in the North East of the hospital grounds. This area consists of the Nursery Building and four blocks of residential flats; that are arranged around a central pedestrian path and open green spaces.The Nursery Building is a single storey brick built structure that was built around the early 1990's. Thebuilding has not been significantly altered since its construction and the majority of its fittings and finishesare thought to be original. Internal walls are blockwork, ceilings are plasterboard and the floor is thoughtto be a suspended slab that is vented below. An undercroft is thought to be present on the West side ofthe building, but no access to it has been identified. The Dutch Gable style roof is fabricated from timbertrusses and covered with tiles; the attic space contains ventilation plant and water tanks. Window anddoor frames, fascia's and soffits are timber.Internally, the building's layout consists of an entrance vestibule that leads onto a large open plan PlayArea. Two smaller play rooms and a Baby Room (which also links back to the vestibule) are accessed fromthe main Play Area. Service rooms are accessed from a corridor on the North side of the building andinclude Staff and Children's WC's, a Kitchen, an Office, a DSR and a Store Room.
