Notice Title
CR/2018/26 - The Effects of Grass Seed Intentionally Containing Endophytes on the Environment
Notice Description
The aim of this research project is to consider the effects of a grass variety containing different types of endophytes to determine if it is safe for the Scottish environment.
Lot Information
Lot 1
The project will consider the effects of a variety of grass seed containing different types of endophytes (intentionally containing endophytes) in the form of field or glasshouse trials. Grass varieties currently marketed in the UK should be endophyte free. The aim is for Scottish Government to gain a better understanding of how endophytes behave within the Scottish environment, and to highlight any health and safety concerns that may arise from growing endophytes associated with grass varieties in the UK. It will also allow the Scottish Government and other UK Governments to identify if the introduction of endophytes in grass seed may cause any concerns that will affect the standard testing of new varieties that takes place within the UK. From these two years of trials, an environmental risk assessment will be produced, outlining the indicators that need to be assessed during an assessment, and shape the requirements for future varieties of grass seed intentionally containing endophytes to meet.
