Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Ambulance Service, located at National Headquarters, Gyle Square, South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh, is seeking providers for "SAS/2019/379 - Treatment and Rehabilitation Services". This contract involves blended services such as physiotherapy and osteopathy targeting the healthcare industry. The procurement process is currently at the Award stage, with the awarded contract amounting to £116,111. The contract was signed on 3rd December 2019, stemming from a tender process initiated earlier in 2019, with the tender period ending on 22nd July 2019.

This contract offers significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those in the healthcare and rehabilitation sectors, to engage with a major public body. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) would be particularly well-suited to compete, especially firms providing physiotherapy services or rehabilitation solutions. The emphasis on a modern and evidence-based approach underscores the need for innovative service providers capable of delivering effective care, thereby enhancing service accessibility for employees suffering from musculoskeletal issues.

The Contract is for the following blended services: Musculoskeletal - Pathway Physiotherapy Osteopathy

Lot Information

Lot 1

The service will offer all identified employee's access to a model which uses a bio-psycho-social case management approach with signposting to early intervention of physiotherapy services. The service will be required to demonstrate an established evidence based approach and methodology, be modern and progressive in its approach. Physiotherapy will be able to be accessed by employees who are unable to carry out a full range of duties due to musculoskeletal problems and where the condition is having an adverse impact on their ability to do their day-to-day job. An initial physiotherapy request/referral for service provision will be for triage, advice and information. Telephone service is to operate as the preferred method of advice offered and provided initially. Where a face to face intervention is necessary the initial face to face appointment should be no longer that will be one session of up to 45 minutes, up to a further three sessions, up to a maximum of 30 minutes can be provided. Face-to-face physiotherapy is to be offered as required depending on complexity of the issues and the specific needs of the employee, and only where telephone/other media support would not be appropriate from a professional perspective. The provider should verify the pathway has been accessed, ensuring the patient has maximised its benefits. Where a face to face consultation is required a maximum of 4 sessions may be authorised (initial + 3 sessions). No further appointments will be available unless agreed by the NHS Scotland entity which is party to the call off contract.

Renewal: An option to extend for a further two years to the 1st September 2024.
