Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Prison Service is seeking to enter into a multi-supplier framework agreement for the provision of softwood timber, primarily redwood and whitewood, to support various timber workshops in prisons across Scotland. This procurement falls under the goods category, and the tender process is currently completed with a total contract value of £1,800,000, signed on 1st December 2019. The tender was initiated under an open procurement method, with bids having been submitted electronically until the deadline of 12th August 2019.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for suppliers of timber products and related industries, particularly companies that specialise in softwood timber provision and associated products. Large enterprises and SMEs with capabilities in timber sourcing and delivery could find this framework beneficial for expanding their client base, as the suppliers selected to fulfil this contract include well-regarded firms within the construction and timber trade. The tender supports a social enterprise model, providing meaningful work and training for prisoners, which may resonate positively with socially responsible businesses looking to partner in such initiatives.
