"description": "Aberdeen Maritime Museum 2019 Brief: Level 5 Link Redevelopment Contact Reference No.: 000-DWCX4219 Background Aberdeen Maritime Museum (AMM) tells the story of the city's long relationship with the Sea. The Maritime Museum houses a unique collection covering shipbuilding, fast sailing ships, fishing and port history. It is also the only place in the UK where you can see displays on the North Sea oil and gas industry. Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museum is proposing another update to a portion of the Aberdeen Maritime Museum Energy Exploration Galleries, namely Level 5, in order for our display to reflect contemporary understanding of Life Offshore, Safety, and Decommissioning. Information Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums is seeking bids for design and redisplay of the top level of the link block AMM ('Level 5 Link'). Curatorial content and information will be provided. The re-vamped exhibition will explore four main areas: - Life in the Industry - Piper Alpha - Safety Since Piper Alpha - Decommissioning The visitor should come away from the display with a basic understanding of what offshore life is like, the people involved and the impact it has upon people, the safety culture and an introduction to the process and debates around decommissioning. Life in The Industry: Demography of the workforce and the impact upon personal life/health Piper Alpha: the disaster from both a technical and personal viewpoint. Safety Since Piper Alpha: Safety in the North Sea (subsea, aboard ship and Office Safety) and the changed ethos of the energy industry Decommissioning: exploring decommissioning by using Murchison as a case study Physical considerations The layout of the floor is designed around the central recess, in which the Murchison Model sits. Some items currently in situ will need to be worked in to any new design, including: - Renewables interactive - Ideally one set of the existing Bunk Beds from Claymore Platform (rear wall) - The Murchison production model (a method must be found to protect flare stack from damage) All display equipment, cases and stands that are currently situated only Level 5 on the Link Building will be able for reuse. Additional cases may also be available from existing stock. Desired approach - Dense text will be avoided; wherever possible collections objects and imagery will be used to carry the message - Wherever possible the displays will have to be 'future proof' to allow easy and economic updating to take account of this fast moving industry Target Audiences - Adults and children who are not directly involved with the oil industry and many of the visitors to Aberdeen Maritime Museum are repeat visitors from the north east of Scotland. Timescale - Please include an indicative timescale in your submitted tender return. We would like to conclude this contract by February 2021 if possible. - Part of the content development process should take into account public/focus group consultation which AMM will facilitate. Budget - The total available budget for this project is 25,000 GBP Pre-tender visits - Jason Williamson, Project/Exhibition Manager - E: jwilliamson@aberdeencity.gov.uk - T: 01224 523713 NOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Public Contracts Scotland Web Site at https://www.publiccontractsscotland.gov.uk/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=597391.
