Lot 1

West Lothian Council Education Services require a qualified and experienced service provider to provide an Augmentative and Alternative Communication Service to meet the technology needs of communication impaired children and young people. The service is to direct support to individuals, their families and facilitators from the time of the child's referral to the conclusion of a young person's school career. The service will be required to: provide appropriate channels for referral and information about the service ; assess the needs of the communication impaired child or young person ; establish individual and environmental needs ; develop, as necessary, an individual intervention plan ; agree placement and service responsibilities ; establish effective lines of communication ; establish joint monitoring and recording system ; As required the type of support provided will include: comprehensive communication technology assessment ; up to date advice and support for individuals and facilitators ; up to date advice on suitable communication activities and opportunities ; advice to schools and service providers in relation to the educational and/or social integration of a communication technology system ; direct teaching of specific skills relevant to an individual's communication system ; support and advice to staff in schools and other service settings ; advice and suitable equipment and access to a loan bank of resources ; training for school staff ; information and support helpline ; liaison with other specialist agencies. A range of service packages will be provided depending upon individual need. Level l - Intensive support to include on site visiting for introduction of new system into the school/home environment. Level 2 - Regular visits by the successful bidder on a monthly basis to record progress with access to a specialist at other times as required. Level 3 - On site visits 3 times per year in order to monitor the individual's progress and address any support needs identified by support staff. Level 4 - An annual monitoring visit would be carried out by the service. The Service will offer a variety of training options. In-service training is targeted at staff working directly with the child/young person and/or a whole establishment/service basis as required.
