Notice Title

Consultancy Research into the UK Maritime Technology Sector

Notice Description

The University aims to secure a single supplier to undertake economic research that will inform the Department for Transport's (DfT) approach to supporting the smart shipping sector in the UK.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The requirement is for the supplier to provide economic research to inform the Department for Transport (DfT) approach to supporting the smart shipping sector in the UK. Smart Shipping is defined in the following way: For this research we are defining smart shipping as the increasing reliance on new technologies across the entire maritime sector. This includes but is not limited to technologies such as robotics/autonomous systems, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data analysis, sensors, advanced materials, telecommunications which can all be used in the maritime sector to deliver increased efficiency, safety or other benefits. This research should consider principally these technologies when used in the maritime sector and not their use in other sectors. However, there is a secondary interest in the potential spillovers, both within the maritime supply-chain and to other other sectors, which is covered in the Scope of Requirement. This research should build upon the evidence base for Maritime 2050 and the TIUK Maritime Roadmap.
