UNIVERSITY OF STRATHCLYDE

This public procurement record has 1 release in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

The University of Strathclyde initiated a procurement process for a consultancy research project focused on the UK Maritime Technology Sector. This open procedure aims to secure a single supplier to provide economic research that will aid the Department for Transport's efforts in promoting smart shipping technologies within the maritime industry. The contract, awarded to London Economics, has a total value of £142,763 and was signed on 12th August 2020. The procurement process is classified under the services category and took place at the University of Strathclyde's Procurement Department located in Glasgow, UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in economic research, particularly those with expertise in smart shipping and maritime technologies such as robotics, machine learning, and data analysis. Companies capable of understanding the integration of these technologies within the maritime sector and those looking to influence policy through research may find this procurement particularly relevant. Additionally, as the existing supplier is a large consultancy firm, there could be a chance for strategic partnerships or sub-contracting opportunities for smaller organisations seeking to grow their footprint in this niche market.

Notice Title

Consultancy Research into the UK Maritime Technology Sector

Notice Description

The University aims to secure a single supplier to undertake economic research that will inform the Department for Transport's (DfT)approach to supporting the smart shipping sector in the UK.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The requirement is for the supplier to provide economic research to inform the Department for Transport (DfT) approach to supporting the smart shipping sector in the UK. Smart Shipping is defined in the following way: For this research we are defining smart shipping as the increasing reliance on new technologies across the entire maritime sector. This includes but is not limited to technologies such as robotics/autonomous systems, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data analysis, sensors, advanced materials, telecommunications which can all be used in the maritime sector to deliver increased efficiency, safety or other benefits. This research should consider principally these technologies when used in the maritime sector and not their use in other sectors. However, there is a secondary interest in the potential spillovers, both within the maritime supply-chain and to other other sectors, which is covered in the Scope of Requirement. This research should build upon the evidence base for Maritime 2050 and the TIUK Maritime Roadmap.
