A project review group on Sustainable Food Procurement has been established in February 2021 to assess options to progress this objective. In particular, it was suggested to undertake a Market Capacity Assessment to better understand if the local offer of food and drink could potentially meet the council's demand. There are several buyers of food and drink in the Council: - Facilities (nurseries, primary and secondary schools and council premises) - South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture - Social Work The objectives of the analysis are: 1. Identify local food and drink businesses who could currently meet the council's demand for food and drink, this includes information about: a. the business (e.g production capacity, performance) b. the food and drink products they could supply (e.g. product specifications, quality) c. delivery options d. any engagement and impacts related to sustainable development (social, economic and environmental) 2. Identify local food and drink businesses who could potentially meet the council's demand for food and drink in the future 3. Identify current barriers for local businesses to supply food and drink to the council 4. Recommend actions for the council and external partners that would help businesses to overcome these barriers.
