Notice Title

Scotland's Centre of Expertise on Climate Change - ClimateXChange PostDoctoral Research Fellow Grant

Notice Description

You are invited by the University of Edinburgh on behalf of Scotland's Centre of Expertise on Climate Change - ClimateXChange, to submit proposals for grant funding of a Post Doctoral Research Fellow. Funding is offered for one Fellowship for one year. The fellowship will comprise a 9 month secondment into the Scottish Government team managing the Scottish TIMES Model, followed by 3 month within the host HEI. Proposals should describe how the candidate can support Scottish Government to deliver required tasks with the STM, and specify what activities and deliverables can be achieved within the 3 months in the host HEI to support STM development. The Scottish TIMES model is a whole energy system model that is used to determine the optimal path for Scotland's energy system to meet climate change targets. The model is the core analytical tool underpinning Scotland's Climate Change Plan. The STM is maintained and developed by the Energy and Climate Change Analysis team in Scottish Government.

Lot Information

Lot 1

There is a need to effectively incorporate and communicate uncertainties in TIMES modelling. The Energy and Climate Change Analysis team are collaborating with the University of Edinburgh on developing computationally efficient approaches to solving stochastic TIMES models, and it would be of interest to apply such methods in the CCP. This fellowship will support Scottish Government to integrate recent policy and research developments into the STM, and then utilise the model for benefit of the new CCP. The fellowship will also build further capacity within HEIs to apply the STM within the wider research community, and thereby strengthen opportunities to further develop the STM in future.

Renewal: Subject to any funding. Not known at this stage.
