Marine Slipway Cleaning

Notice Description

CalMac Ferries Ltd are looking for a tried and tested proven solution providing a service which ensures that slipways and other such pedestrian surfaces which are subject to being in tidal zone are kept free from marine growth at all times such that the surfaces are not slippery for passengers, cars and other users to walk on or drive on.

Lot Information

Marine Slipway Cleaning - Firth of Clyde and Kintyre area

CalMac Ferries Ltd (CFL) requires a contractor to undertake periodic works to provide a service which ensures that slipways and other such pedestrian surfaces which are subject to being in tidal zones are kept free from marine growth at all times such that the surfaces are not slippery for passengers, cars and other users to walk on or drive on. Consideration must be given to tidal states and the requirement to have all potentially exposed areas of the slipways and steps at any state of tide free from algae growth. There are a number of enforcing authorities that take an interest in the methods an organisation may use to clean the slipways, which include but are not limited to HSE, SEPA and the MCA, therefore all methods must meet all legislative obligations. All proposals must comply with relevant legislation, including in particular (but not limited to) The Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations 2011. The service provider should: -Provide the ability to clean the slipways and other such pedestrian surfaces which are subject to being in tidal zone in a non-destructive manner; -Provide the ability to keep all slips clean using a method which is fully compliant with the prevailing health, safety and environmental legislation; -Provide ability to keep all slips clean using a method which promotes a demonstrable best practice approach to environmental and biodiversity protection; -Provide the ability to clean the slipways full extent of surfaces within the tidal zone, ie allowing for tidal impact on cleaning methods at the lowest possible tide times; -Provide the ability to ensure that if slipway growth does occur before the impending visit of the contractor, that such a means to spot-treat the slipway growth is identified and provided. This Prior Information Notice is to establish products/services available on the market that would achieve this. Suppliers should record their interest and should they do so they will be contacted to provide the following: - Details of chemical makeup of the product, details of the active ingredients and method of chemical reaction/ action that provides the benefits - Full details of 'real-world' trial data (outside a laboratory) including method of trial, location and size of area covered, length of period area remains algae free, results of trial including evidence of algae re-occurring. - Details of current market use and market experience in similar marine environment.
