Lot Information

Lot 1

Lumbister, Yell, Shetland - Peatland restoration for section 1B of the land holding. We are looking to restore the next section named 1B this coming autumn using different techniques for the scenarios listed below. - Drain Blocking to be delivered through a combination of solely damming OR damming with reprofiling between the dams depending on the drain in question (see map below). Predicted requirements are as follows: - 6044m of drain blocking without reprofiling between the dams - 2652m of drain blocking with reprofiling between the dams This is likely to equate to - 1207 peat dams (when dams are spaced between 7m-10m along ditch length) - 15 plastic pile dams (these will be for areas of higher flow and exact locations selected as the works progress) - 10 timber dams (this is a trial on one drain, with dams spaced every 10m. We envisage timber dams to be three planks high with lowest plank keyed into the mineral and stobs driven into the mineral to hold the dam in place) Hag and Gully Reprofiling - 4448m of purely hag / gully / peat bank reprofiling - Some of the hag and gully systems will require damming and this is likely to equate to a further: - 261 peat dams - 10 timber dams (on a single gully system which will be undertaken as a trial) Period of delivery - September 2022 to March 2023. Please note: this period is not absolute and will depend on the outcome of the funding application.
