The bricks in 2 of the FTL cremators at Mortonhall Crematorium have reached the end of their service life. Potentially serious issues have been identified and therefore re-bricking is now urgently required.. For technical reasons, it was deemed necessary to award this contract in respect of the required re-bricking service directly to the original suppliers and installers of the cremator, FTL.

Procurement Information

This is a very specialised / niche market sector with limited numbers of active suppliers. From past experience we know that these suppliers are generally only prepared to service and maintain cremators which they themselves originally manufactured and installed. This is because the type of bricks required are specific to each manufacturer's cremators and therefore only available from the original manufacturer. Additionally, again from past experience, alternative suppliers tend not to have the necessary specialised knowledge and understanding of cremators supplied and installed by their competitors.
