Consultancy Services for Climate Resilient Dundee
Notice Description
Dundee City Council have a requirement to appoint a landscape architect to provide consultancy services which include concept designs for blue green infrastructure across Dundee. blue-green infrastructure is an important component of urban climate resilience and creating nature-rich places. Its use as a nature-based solution to rain and stormwater management results in a wide range of long-term benefits for people and nature, such as health, placemaking and biodiversity benefits, whilst also providing climate resilience to effects like heat, drought and flooding. The proposed project will support Dundee City Councils' and Scottish Waters' Strategic Drainage Partnership in their successive implementation of sustainable drainage on a city-wide scale, by ensuring that all current and future interventions meet their full potential in forming part of a city-wide blue-green network and creating multiple benefits for people and nature. The work will explore the feasibility of Dundee as a climate resilient place, by working from the city scale, where urban and ecological connectivity are apparent, down to the neighbourhood scale, where individual measures are implemented. The period of contract shall be from Mid-February 2023 until July 2023
Lot Information
Lot 1
Landscape architects with a proven experience in blue-green infrastructure and strategic urban-realm design will carry out the work. They will be working closely with Scottish Water's drainage engineers and Dundee City Council's engineers, biodiversity and greenspace officers, planners and other officers. The first stage will be a compilation of a city-wide blue green baseline from existing relevant data, gathering information about opportunities for strategic blue-green connectivity and its overlap with strategic drainage flow paths and other key developments (e.g. active travel) at city-scale, combining technical knowledge about habitat connectivity and drainage with a design-led perspective. This will set the wider context for the next stage and ensure that areas identified for further analysis will align with other projects and opportunities happening across in the city. Further work at catchment-scale will scope for opportunities to use drainage retrofitting to implement elements of blue-green infrastructure within a catchment-boundary and translate some of these into concept designs. The aim is to use a design-led approach, which focusses on opportunities for implementation. The geographic scope of this study is the Dundee Local Authority area, however the wider context and certain factors outside this boundary will have to be considered due to their impact on/ or relevance for the study area and its wider connections
