This is the second Phase of the kerb heights / layouts. This further research seeks to find possible solutions that would increase safety for vulnerable road users including cyclists. The aim is to recommend kerb heights applicable to as wide a range of users as possible. This Phase 4 will extend the study to testing of kerbs in laboratory conditions at Edinburgh Napier University. Testing in controlled conditions will allow more robust recommendations to be made regarding kerb properties for purposes of inclusive design. The study may lead to new standards development for Scotland, the UK, and beyond. Therefore, the study should be robust and rigorous enough to stand up to scrutiny and challenge.
