Notice Information
Notice Title
Consultancy to review the application and function of the carbon calculator.
Notice Description
To review the latest research on the application and function of the carbon calculator as a tool in the energy consent decision-making process, in respect of windfarm developments on Scottish Peatlands, to propose updates, if required, and to incorporate quality assurance mechanisms throughout the planning and construction phases; to develop appropriate guidance to support interpretation by non-expert planners; and to explore potential future uses of the tool.
Lot Information
Lot 1
ClimateXChange wishes to commission work to consider whether the carbon calculator requires updates in respect of windfarms on Scottish Peatlands. This is to ensure that the Scottish Government has adequate tools to help assess the net carbon impacts of development proposals on peatlands and other carbon-rich soils in Scotland. The carbon calculator for windfarms on Scottish peatlands was designed to support decision making on large scale wind farm development within Scotland, by assessing the site-specific carbon impact of individual windfarm proposals. This is done by comparing the carbon costs of wind farm development with the carbon savings attributable to the subsequent production of renewable energy.. The work is commissioned on behalf of the Scottish Government. The ownership of the research material including the final report and any data produced as a result of the research lies with ClimateXChange on behalf of Scottish Ministers.
