Forensic Medical Services Policy Custody, Prison and Border Force Control
Notice Description
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) aims, through a partnership approach with Police Scotland, to provide a trauma informed, person centred, safe and clinically effective healthcare services for people brought to Police Offices and healthcare facilities within the NHSGGC area in support of Police Scotland Criminal Justice Services Division. This service will provide signposting and direct referral to the following services: -Primary and secondary care for physical health needs. -Primary and secondary care for Mental Health needs -Primary and secondary care for Addiction needs. Forensic Physicians (FPS) will provide general healthcare and forensic medical assessment of people in police custody/suspects in police custody and complainants/complainers (alleged victims) of crime. An assessment and treatment service will also be required for the 4 prison establishments within NHSGGC boundary (HMP Barlinnie, HMP Low Moss, HMP Greenock and Lilias Community Custody Unit for women) out with office hours (Monday to Friday 08.00 - 18.00) and on agreed Public Holidays. FPS would require providing telephone advice to nursing or prison staff during these hours, or attending the prison to see and treat the patient if required, as clinically determined by the FPS. Furthermore, FPs will provide a primary care response to UK Border Force at Glasgow Airport Custody cells at Glasgow Airport.
