South Lanarkshire community alarm service supports around 10,500 social work service users to live safely in their own homes. Assistive technology is a range of sensors and devices provided to the most vulnerable of service users as part of the arrangements to monitor their welfare, and enhance their support, care and independence. Assistive technology is usually linked to either dispersed community alarms or to stand-alone pagers in service users' homes. These devices automatically alert carers or the community alarm receiving centre of an event or incident.

The award of this contract under the Negotiated Tendering Procedure can be justified under Standing Order 9.3.2 of the Council's Standing Orders on Contracts, Regulation 33(1) of The Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2015 for the following reason: - It is strictly necessary that the contract be awarded without delay for reasons of extreme urgency either brought about by events out with the control of the Council or to prevent danger to life, serious risk to health or damage to property.
